That's why it's taking me so long to read Dorrit. (9 + months, but who's counting?) I love the movies too. A few years ago, before Downton Abbey started, Masterpiece did a whole season of just Dickens adaptions--I was in heaven!Jennihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13139361928785566916noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5101126112369382176.post-28106006814570082662014-02-21T09:11:17.961-08:002014-02-21T09:11:17.961-08:00Thanks for stopping by, Claudine! I haven't read Our Mutual Friend, yet, but I've heard that's one of his better ones. I might have to tackle that one next. David Copperfield is my favorite so far--enjoy!Jennihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13139361928785566916noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5101126112369382176.post-32936096393302743572014-02-21T06:39:59.451-08:002014-02-21T06:39:59.451-08:00I've tried to read Dickens, but I can never ge...I've tried to read Dickens, but I can never get past his first chapters. That said, I have enjoyed the stories he's told through movies.Cherie Reichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16663147386014122939noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5101126112369382176.post-66145268554012719532014-02-20T19:13:49.860-08:002014-02-20T19:13:49.860-08:00Dickens is my favourite classics writer. I read Little Dorrit in college and grew to love it. Didn't really like Amy Dorrit, though. But Mr. Clennam and his mother, and the side characters are all so colourful. This year, I might read David Copperfield or Our Mutual Friend. Haven't decided yet but already, I can't wait. :)Yanting Guehhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04788603550626277974noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5101126112369382176.post-18223464620500607782014-02-20T09:16:21.484-08:002014-02-20T09:16:21.484-08:00Thanks for stopping by! A Tale of Two Cities does have some darkness with the French revolution, and the ending is rather sad. My favorite for kids is David Copperfield. My son read it last year and really enjoyed it.Jennihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13139361928785566916noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5101126112369382176.post-45979862880226356162014-02-20T09:10:59.149-08:002014-02-20T09:10:59.149-08:00Oh, Marcia, I hope you pick that book up again! How wonderful that you even got to go to one of his homes--I'd love to do that someday. :) Jennihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13139361928785566916noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5101126112369382176.post-84873868761418852492014-02-20T09:05:26.717-08:002014-02-20T09:05:26.717-08:00My daughter read Oliver Twist this past year, but ...My daughter read Oliver Twist this past year, but thought it was horrible and sad. Now we are reading A Tale of Two Cities, which is ok so far. She's very sensitive and doesn't like dark or sad stories. Thanks for the mentions of when there are dark things in the books, it's helpful.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14522289745063307507noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5101126112369382176.post-50833088756895794582014-02-20T07:12:18.234-08:002014-02-20T07:12:18.234-08:00Interesting post! Probably because several other authors came out with similar works. But it was great fun to research. I even visited one of his homes in England.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5101126112369382176.post-90344307263773859322014-02-19T20:04:03.868-08:002014-02-19T20:04:03.868-08:00Leandra, maybe it was Pickwick Papers? Pick up any of his books and read those alone, and you'll bow your heard in reverence. Happy you were born, master!Mirka Breenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00653086859905415156noreply@blogger.com
